Why I Wrote LANDON LEARNS About Bullying
Jan 08, 2025
Bullying is a topic that hits close to home for so many of us. Whether we’ve experienced it ourselves, seen someone else go through it, or heard the heartbreaking stories from children we care about, bullying is an issue that affects families, schools, and communities worldwide. It’s something I’ve witnessed firsthand, and it’s one of the reasons I felt compelled to write LANDON LEARNS About Bullying.
Inspiration Behind the Story
As someone who has dedicated my life to leadership and mentorship, I’ve always believed in the power of stories to teach, heal, and inspire. When I set out to create the LANDON LEARNS series, I knew I wanted to address real-life challenges that children face every day. Bullying was the perfect starting point because it’s not just a childhood issue—it’s a leadership challenge.
My inspiration for this book is rooted in a core memory from my own childhood. I vividly remember being treated badly by a classmate in elementary school. To this day, I don’t remember her name or face—I don’t even remember much about her at all. What I do remember, though, is how small and powerless I felt in that moment. That feeling stuck with me.
But what I remember even more clearly is the moment my brother stood up for me. His support changed everything. After that event, I didn’t need anyone to stand up for me again. I learned how to advocate for myself and maintain boundaries. It was a lesson of a lifetime—one that shaped who I am today, over four decades later.
This story taught me how vital it is to feel supported and empowered, especially as a child. That’s the kind of strength and confidence I want to instill in kids through Landon’s journey.
Why Bullying Matters
Bullying isn’t just “kids being kids.” It has lasting effects on a child’s self-esteem, emotional well-being, and ability to form healthy relationships. Research shows that children who are bullied are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and academic challenges.
This is why it’s critical to address bullying early, equipping children with tools to recognize and respond to it. It’s not just about stopping the behavior—it’s about teaching empathy, building resilience, and fostering a culture of kindness.
Empowering Young Leaders
At its heart, the LANDON LEARNS series is about leadership. I wanted to create a story that inspires young readers to become leaders in their own lives—whether it’s standing up for themselves, supporting a friend, or making their school a safer, more inclusive place.
Landon’s journey is one of courage and growth. He doesn’t face these challenges alone; he learns to lean on trusted adults, his friends, and his own inner strength. My hope is that readers will see themselves in Landon and feel empowered to navigate their own challenges with the same determination and support.
A Story with Purpose
Every page of LANDON LEARNS About Bullying was written with intention—to spark important conversations, to give children a safe space to learn, and to remind them that their voices matter. This book is more than a story; it’s a tool for families, teachers, and communities to work together in creating a safer, kinder world for our kids.
I’m proud of what this series represents and excited about the impact it can have. Writing LANDON LEARNS About Bullying has been a journey of passion and purpose, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.
Together, let’s inspire a generation of young leaders who stand up, speak out, and make a difference.
