When something happens between children, adults often begin responding based on the information available to them.

But what if we don't have the whole story?

A child tells an adult what happened.

Another child tells a different version.

Someone witnessed part of the incident.

Someone else heard about it afterward.

An educator may have information the parent does not have. A parent may know something the school does not know.

Each person may be responding to the same situation—but from a very different perspective.

So what happens when we make decisions based on the piece of the story we have?

What might we assume?

What might we miss?

And what happens when new information changes what we thought we knew?

These are some of the questions attendees will explore through the Immersive Bullying Simulation™ at the 2026 Bullying, Literacy, & Leadership Experience (BLLX).

More Than a Scenario

The Immersive Bullying Simulation™ is an experiential learning curriculum, and on October 31, BLLX attendees will participate in its inaugural live pilot.

The experience will center around one bullying incident viewed from the perspectives of different people connected to that incident.

Each attendee will be assigned a role.

But there is an important difference between this experience and simply reading a case study:

No one will receive the entire story at the beginning.

Instead, information will unfold throughout the BLLX experience.

As participants receive new information, they will have opportunities to interact with others, compare what they know, ask questions, form assumptions, seek clarification, and perhaps change their minds.

Throughout the experience, participants will be challenged to consider: 

What do we actually know?

What don't we know?

What are we assuming?

What information does someone else have that we don't?

How are we responding based on the information available to us?

And perhaps most importantly:

What happens when we learn something that challenges what we originally believed?

Why This Experience Matters

Adults who support children rarely receive every fact, every conversation, every perspective, and every piece of context before they have to respond.

A parent may hear one version. 

A teacher may observe something different.

A counselor may know additional information.

A coach, mentor, youth leader, or another trusted adult may see behavior that no one else has witnessed.

And the child at the center of the situation may be trying to make sense of all of it.

That means responding well requires more than reacting to the first piece of information we receive.

It requires us to listen. 

Ask questions.

Pay attention to facts and context.

Recognize our assumptions.

Consider other perspectives.

And remain willing to adjust our understanding as we learn more.

The Immersive Bullying Simulation™ is designed to give BLLX attendees an opportunity to experience that process, rather than simply talk about it.

Experience It Before We Talk About It

BLLX is not designed to be a day of simply sitting in chairs and listening to presentations. 

We want attendees thinking.

We want them questioning.

We want them interacting.

We want them noticing when they fill gaps in information with assumptions.

And after participants receive the final information in the simulation, they will have an opportunity to reflect together.

What helped?

What caused additional harm?

Where could someone have responded differently?

What should adults take from this experience when children bring situations to them?

The goal is not to determine who figured out the story first.

The goal is to become more thoughtful about how we listen, what we assume, the questions we ask, and how the decisions adults make can affect children.

Meet Dr. Yvonne N. Crawford

Helping lead BLLX attendees through this experience will be Dr. Yvonne N. Crawford, Immersive Bullying Simulation™ Lead.

Dr. Crawford brings a powerful combination of leadership, education, service, and real-world experience to BLLX.

She is an Active-Duty Chief Warrant Officer Four in the United States Army with more than 21 years of service. Her extensive leadership experience includes leader development, training, strategic human resources, operational planning, and advising senior leaders.

She is also an educator.

Dr. Crawford serves as an Adjunct Instructor of Leadership at Georgia Military College, where she combines leadership theory with more than two decades of practical experience while helping students strengthen their communication, decision-making, accountability, character, and leadership capacity.

Her combination of leadership experience, academic perspective, technical expertise, and educator's lens makes her uniquely suited to help guide attendees through an experience that asks us to examine how information, perspective, assumptions, communication, and decisions can shape our response to a situation involving a child.

Throughout BLLX, Dr. Crawford will help introduce the simulation, guide its progression, and lead attendees through the interactive debrief following the final stage of the experience.

The Bigger Vision Behind BLLX

Angela M. Odom created the Bullying, Literacy, & Leadership Experience (BLLX) as a one-day, in-person learning experience designed to better equip the adults who support children. 

BLLX brings together perspectives from education, parenting, youth advocacy, literacy, leadership, legal awareness, and lived experience—and turns those perspectives into information and practical strategies adults can use.

Parents, educators, school counselors, social workers, mentors, coaches, youth leaders, faith leaders, community advocates, after-school professionals, and other adults who support children may be among the first to see, hear about, or respond when something is happening in a child's life.

When a child says,

“Something is happening.”

We want the adult receiving those words to be better prepared to ask:

What am I seeing or hearing?

What does this child need from me right now?

What can I do within my role?

Who else needs to know?

What should happen next?

The Immersive Bullying Simulation™ adds another important question:

What might I not know yet?
